How I Turned Into A Star Wars GEEK

The years was 1977, and my Grandpa Otto asked we what I wanted to do for the day. I said, "Can we go to a movie?". He replied, "Sure, which one?". I was all of 11 years old and the only movie I wanted to see was this new movie called "Star Wars". So off we went to the Mayfair Mall. Back in 1977, the Mayfair Mall did not have a theatre inside the mall. The theatre was it's own seperate building. It only had two screens in it. I don't remember the other movie showing at the time, all I remember is getting our tickets and going into the theatre. I had an aisle seat. The theatre went dark, and the iconic Star Wars theme song and the scrolling intro started. That was it. That's where it all started!

As the years have gone by and the STAR WARS legacy has continued, I have grown with it! I have always considered myself a part of the "Light Side". Growing up who didn;t want to be Luke Skywalker! But I was also very intrigued by the Dark Side, specifically the Stormtroopers. I'm not sure the attraction. Maybe it was the awesome looking white uniforms and armor they wore. Maybe it was when they stood together in the ranks and looked so organized, uniform, and strong. The shiny helmets? Maybe it was all of this and more. Then, a couple of years ago when I met Billy. Billy is a part of the 501st Legion. The 501st Legion tag line is "Bad guys doing good." The 501st is a group of people around the world that all have something in common. Star Wars costumes, and doing good in their communities. THIS was my chance to be a legit, approved, stamped for quality Stormtrooper! Long story short, I have my costume parts, now it long overdue to be built. I can't wait!

All it took was one day back in 1977. 121 minutes. One movie to start a lifetime of fun and memories. So I say to you, "May The 4th Be With You". Make sure you let out the inner Star Wars Geek in yourself today and every day!
