I LOVE food! No secret there. Over the years it has been common to ask coworkers "What's for lunch?" and then head out to your favorite place to grab a bite. I can count on one hand how many times I have done that over the past few years. It's not that I LOVE my job so much that I want to be in my office. I do love my job, but I also love "my time" and "my money". Do the math. How much do you spend on eating out? Probably more than you want. Here are three reasons why you should bring your lunch to work.

1. Better Choices.

Think of it this way, you have to think! What are you going to pack each day? That takes some effort, but what it does do is make you think about your food choices a bit more and what you should bring to eat. These days when you go out to eat, the restaurants are bringing these huge plates of food to you and the helping are just flat out too large! Everyone loves a good deal on their meal, but portion sizes are getting out of control at some places. When you pack your own lunch, it puts YOU in control of your portions. Chances are you will make better choices as well. Maybe more healthy foods and snacks.

2. Lunch Breaks are good for your health.

These days, work can be the cause of stress and anxiety. Meetings here, deadlines there, the work day can be very hectic. By bringing in your lunch, you control YOUR time. When you go out to eat, you have to get in the car, drive to where you want to eat, find parking, maybe wait in line for a table or to order, then eat, and do the same routine on the way back to work. When you bring your lunch, you get to take your time. Maybe sit and read an article, or watch some videos on your computer, or even just download and relax.

3. SAVE MONEY!!

This is the big one, and like I had mentioned previously in the post, do the math and find out how much you spend on food when you eat out. Add in paying for parking, tips, and gas money and over time it all adds up! What if you bought just a little extra from the grocery store, and made your own lunch? You would probably save a ton! When you do your monthly budget at home, it will make a big difference in what you spend going out to eat vs. bringing your lunch. The you could use your saved money to invest or for bills, or something better than a burger and fries at a sit down burger joint

Bottom line, save yourself some money, and get yourself a bit more healthy. It only takes a little bit of your time, and last time I checked- I got MORE time than I have money!
