Kentucky Derby

Are you ready for the Kentucky Derby?

Mix up your own Mint Julep this year

May 4, 2018

The Kentucky Derby isn’t just about the horses.  (Can you even name 3 ponies in the race?)  It’s also about celebrity sightings, spring fashion, and let’s not forget those pricey Mint Juleps.

Well this year you don’t have to shell out $1000 to enjoy one for yourself.  Check out the recipe that will be served up at the race this year below.

So invite your friends over this weekend for a Kentucky Derby style celebration.  And don’t forget those floppy hats.

Mint Julep

Ingredients:

  • Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select Bourbon
  • Sorghum Simple Syrup from Woodford County, Kentucky
  • Kentucky Colonel Mint Leaves
  • Crushed ice
  • Roses

Rub one mint leave on the inside of your julep cup and drop it in.  Add 2 oz. of Bourbon, 1 tsp. of simple syrup and crushed ice.  Stir well.  Add mint leaves and a rose to garnish.  Enjoy!

This year over 140,000 Mint Juleps will be consumed on Kentucky Derby Weekend.  But don’t forget to mark your calendar for National Mint Julep Day which is on May 30th.
