Kids who help wash dishes by hand could wind up with fewer allergies.
A new study reports only 23-percent of children in homes where families washed dishes by hand developed allergies, compared to 38-percent in families that used dishwashing machines.
Researchers in Sweden also say there’s more evidence that getting a little dirty helps strengthen kids’ immune systems. The scientists think kids are developing so many allergies because their environments are too clean. Researchers say without exposure to bacteria early in life, children’s immune systems don’t become as strong as they could be. The study is published in the journal “Pediatrics.”
