Today In Pop Music: July 12 – Odd Couple Score #1 Hit From Movie Bomb

1943 – Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac)

1950 – Eric Carr (Kiss/drums)

1979 – Minnie Riperton (“Loving You”) lost her battle with cancer at age 31.  The Stevie Wonder produced song had given her a #1 song four years earlier and showcased her multi-octave voice.

1986 – Simply Red scored their first chart topping single with ‘Holding Back The Tears’, a song lead singer Mick Hucknall had written when he was 17 years old, but did not finish until many years later.

1980 – Talk about an odd paring: Olivia Newton-John and Electric orchestra teamed up for ‘Xanadu’ which shot to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Unfortunately, it couldn’t help the turkey of a movie it was taken from, which tanked at the box office.
