British scientists say they’ve identified ten blood proteins that can predict the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.  Their finding could pave the way for a blood test to determine whether someone will develop the brain-wasting disease.  A King’s College London researcher thinks the reason many Alzheimer’s drug trials have failed is that the patients’ brains are too far gone by the time they start taking the medication.

The blood test could identify Alzheimer’s patients much earlier, when their involvement in drug trials might lead to effective treatments.  Alzheimer’s is a fatal disease that affects 44-million people around the world.  Experts say that number is likely to triple by 2050.
