1948 – Without this, there would have been no ‘Sgt. Pepper’, no ‘Pet Sounds’, ‘Frampton Comes Alive’, ‘Saturday Night Fever’, ‘Thriller’, or ‘Tapestry’……I could go on and on and on.  Columbia Records began the first mass production of the 33 1/3 rpm long playing record that could hold 23 minutes of music per side, 64 years ago today.

1974 – Rare Earth (‘Get Ready’, ‘I Just Want To Celebrate’) drummer Peter Hoorelbeke was arrested after a concert for throwing his drumsticks into the crowd. (love to know what the chare was!)

1975 – Elvis Presley had a face lift at Mid South hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

1977 – Fleetwood Mac had their first and only #1 single with Dreams, a song Stevie Nicks knocked out in about 10 minutes during down time at a recording session at the Record Plant studio in Sausalito, California.

1993 – A & M Records chairman Jerry Moss and co-chairman Herb Alpert announced they were leaving the company they founded more than 30 years earlier.  They had started the label in the garage of Herb alpert’s garage in 1962, and sold A&M to Polygram in 1990 for $500 million.

2010 – John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics to The Beatles song ‘A Day In The Life’. was sold at an auction at Southerby’s in New York for $1.2 million.  The lyrics were witten double-sided on a sheet of paper with notes written in felt marker and blue ink, and also contained some corrections and other notes penned in red ink.
