A new study by doctors at Henry Ford Hospital suggests that snoring should receive medical attention just like sleep apnea.¬† Researchers using data from more than 900 people in the hospital’s sleep center found an increased risk of thickening of the two large blood vessels that supply blood to the brain in people who snore.¬† Dr. Kathleen Yaremchuk authored the study and says snoring could create a higher risk than other known causes of heart disease.

Trauma and subsequent inflammation caused by the vibrations of snoring is suspected of leading to cardiovascular disease.¬† Results are published in this month’s edition of The Laryngoscope¬† journal and a long-term study is planned.
