1939 – Dusty Springfield (You Don’t Have To Say You Love me, What Have I Done To Deserve This with the Pet Shop Boys – died 1999)

1947 – Gerry Rafferty (died 2011)

1963 – Little Jimmy Osmond (he’s over 50 now!)


1964 – The Beatles filmed the  chase scenes for ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ with actors dressed as policeman.  Later that evening they recorded the title track to the film, needing nine takes before a satisfactory master was made.

1972 – Electric Light Orchestra made their debut in London, fulfilling a desire of Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne to create modern rock and pop songs with classical overtones.  Roy left the group after the first album and Jeff continued the band writing and arranging all of the group’s original compositions… and he produced every album, not to mention The Traveling Wilburys, Joe Walsh, Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, and George Harrison.

1973 – Paul McCartney’s first television special James Paul McCartney was aired in the United States and in Great Britain a month later.  It has yet to be released on home video.

1977 – David Soul, of Starsky and Hutch fame, had the #1 song in America with ‘Don’t Give Up on Us’.

1996 – For the first time in 15 years, all four members of Kiss appeared in full make up.  The occasion was the 38th Annual Grammy Awards, where they announced a reunion tour.

2003 – Jerry Lee Lewis filed for divorce from his sixth wife Kerrie who he had married in 1984 while she was president of his fan club.  (you could write a book on his marriages alone!)

1964 – The Rolling Stones debut album was released in the UK topping the album chart just two weeks after it was issued.  It would remain on the chart for a total of 40 weeks, 11 of which were spent at #1.
