Beatles VI is actually the seventh Beatles Beatles album released by Capitol Records.  ‘The Beatles Story’, released  by Capitol in 1964 was not a Beatles album in the strict sense of the word, but merely a documentary slapped together with interview and song clips, and therefore does not count as a regular album release.

June 1965 turned out to be a busy month for the Beatles.  They had finished filming their second film ‘Help!’ the month before, and on June 11 Buckingham Palace announced they would all be getting the group MBE’s.  Three days later, Beatles VI was released in the United States.
Clocking in at just over 28 minutes of music, Beatles VI was a mixture of Lennon-McCartney originals and covers, including two which had specifically been recorded for the North American market – a first. John Lennon laid down a couple of screaming rock and roll vocals on a couple of Larry Williams songs ‘Bad Boy’ and ‘Dizzy Miss Lizzy’ – both recorded on Larry’s birthday May 10, 1965. The album also featured their cover of Buddy Holly’s ‘Words of Love’, and a medley of Wilbert Harrison’s hit ‘Kansas City’ and Little Richard’s ‘Hey Hey Hey Hey’. George Harrison contributed one song “You Like Me Too Much’, while the other six songs were written by Lennon-McCartney.
Out of the albums eleven songs, John Lennon and Paul McCartney each took lead vocals on two tracks, George Harrison on one, John and Paul on five and John Paul and George on one.
Unlike the original Capitol vinyl albums which contained extra reverb on most tracks and a fake stereo version of ‘Yes It Is’, the new U.S. Albums box set features the 2009 mono and stereo mixes used on the British sets.
