Dog + Baby = a reduced risk of asthma and allergies.

Having a dog appears to reduce a child’s risk of developing asthma and allergies, if the child is exposed to a dog in a household during infancy.  At least that’s according to a team of scientists at the University of California San Francisco and the University of Michigan who tested the theory out on mice.  They found that microbes that live in the gut of mice changed when exposed to dogs and experienced a diminished immune system reaction to common allergens.  The study is published in the “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.”
