1961 – The Beatles played two shows at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, one at lunchtime and one in the evening.  Decca Records rep Mike Smith was in attendance that night to catch the show and perhaps offer the group a recording contract.  He passed, and he never lived it down.

This is the earliest footage of The Beatles live at the club, just days after Pete Best left and Ringo joined as drummer, and about nine months after Decca Records lost out on what would become the biggest pop group of all time.
