1955 – Billboard magazine named Elvis Presley the most promising new country and western artist of the year.

1965 – Up against a hard deadline, The Beatles completed the recording sessions for their ‘Rubber Soul’ album knocking out three songs in one day,  beginning at 4 in in the afternoon and going into the wee hous of the morning’Wait’, a song discarded from the ‘Help’ soundtrack, was pulled out ioth new instrumentation added and deemed fir for inclusion.  Paul’s ‘You Won’t see Me’ and John’s ‘Girl’ completed the tracks needed and the album was in stores – on time – less than a month later.

1978 – Donna Summer began a three week run atop the Billboard Hot 100 with her version of Jimmy Webb’s ‘Mac Arthur Park’. Though Richard Harris’ version contained the complete song while Donna’s did not, his version peaked at #2 for one week.

1986 – Pink Floyd issued a press statement stating they would continue to use the name Pink Floyd with the departure of Roger Waters and were already working on their next album.

1969 – Phoenix FBI agents arrested The Doors lead singer Jim Morrison, who was on his way to a Rolling Stones concert at Veterns Memorial Coliseum that night to pass out tickets for the Stones show as a joke to fans who had none. The arrest was made after reports of  drunk and disorderly conduct aboard a Flight 172.  He and actor Tom Baker had been drinking and annoying stewardesses and passengers.  They were taken off the plane, spent the night in a Phoenix jail, and released on $2500 bond.  Here’s set list from the 15 song show he missed:
