1961 – Two days after Beatles fan Raymond Jones walked into Brian Epstein’s NEMS record store in Liverpool and asked for The Beatles German single of ‘My Bonnie’ (which they had recorded with Tony Sheridan), two girls came in and asked for the same record.  Brian’s difficulty in tracking it down was due to the fact that the record was released as by Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers and not The Beatles.  Epstein eventually tracked it down for his customers, and thus began a relationship that would last the rest of his life.

1967 – Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones in an English court admitted to possession of cannabis and allowing his flat to be used for smoking of the drug, but pled not guilty to the charge of meth and cocaine, which was accepted.  He was sentensed to nine months in prison, and was released on bail the next day.

1971 – John Lennon was #1 on the British album chart with ‘Imagine’ which contained two scathing songs against Paul McCartney: ‘How Do You Sleep’ and ‘Crippled Inside’.

1982 – Australia’s Men At Work topped the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Who Can It Be Now’.

2007 – Forbes.com reported that Elvis Presley had regained his crown as the highest-earning deceased celebrity with an annual income of over $49 million.  John Lennon’s estate was second with $44 million, and Peanuts creator Charles M. Schultz estate was third.

1970 – Jim Morrison of The Doors was fined and sentenced to six months in jail after being found guilty of indecent exposure during a show in Miami.  The verdict was still under appeal at the time of his death in 1971.
