Box office was on fire this weekend with some great new films in theaters. Let’s take a look at what the country went out and saw over the weekend….

Animation tops the box office this week with one for the entire family and a follow up to a big hit. The original Sony film “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs” opened back in 2009 with over $30mil. The sequel opened this weekend surpassing that of the original with over $35mil! I love when a great family flick rules the box office since it means families made the time to spend together and check out something they could all enjoy. If you are looking for one to take the kids/grandchildren to this week then here is the one. “Cloudy With A Chance 2” is rated PG.

This means last week’s number one was bumped down to the number 2 slot this week. Now this is one that is NOT for the entire family but if you are looking for something to get your blood flowing, heart racing, and keep you on the edge of your seat for well over 2 hrs, then this is my pick for you for. Talk about a roller coaster ride of emotions! That is just what you will get if you choose this one. “Prisoners” is a kidnapping movie starring Hugh Jackman who does such a remarkable job of capturing the emotion that would come with losing a child and having to look for them. But I will say that this is not for the weak stomach type. It can be a bit graphic. Ok a lot graphic! But if you can handle it this is a very good movie. Rated R.

Here is  a look at a few others that made the top five in the box office and you may want to stop in and check out sometime this week….

1. Cloudy With a Chance Of Meatballs 2

2. Prisoners

3. Rush

4. Baggage Claim

5. Don Jon

Have a great week and enjoy yourself if you are heading out to the show! 🙂
