Alan Meyers, drummer for the New Wave band DEVO, has passed away after a long battle with cancer.

He joined the band back in 1976 and was the 3rd drummer for the group, but that gig lasted for 10 years.  He was a part of their jump to fame which included their biggest song “Whip It” and some of their biggest records including ‘Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!’, ‘Duty Now For The Future’, and ‘Freedom Of Choice’.

He left the band after they started to rely more on the sound of drum machines back in 1986.  ‘Whip It’ was a huge record in my day, and I loved the fact that this band was so different from anything out there.

I loved their version of ‘Satisfaction’ from the Rolling Stones too.
