A recent inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame celebrates his 66th birthday along with a  member of two different successful groups in two different decades.  And on May 10, 1969, Tricia Nixon invited one of her favorite groups to the White House, when security stopped them from entering because of a suspected bomb they were carrying.

Donovan (Leitch) is 66 today, as is singer songwriter Graham Gouldman, whose  60’s hits with The Mindbenders included Game of Love and A Groovy Kind of Love, and in the 70’s with 10cc (I’m Not In Love).

As for the White House incident, The Turtles special performance for President Nixon’s daughter Tricia was delayed when a security agent mistook the group’s electronic tuning device for a bomb.

So much for being Happy Together.

The week after Donovan’s induction into the HOF last month, I asked him about his own transition from the acoustic folk sound in his early songs to the heavier electric guitars in his later hits.
