John‘s son [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Julian Lennon[/lastfm] spent some time on Twitter yesterday, sharing his 49th birthday with anyone who cared to join in.

“Thanks for all your birthday wishes today.  Just at home in my jammies, working and rehearsing for upcoming live TV next week in the UK.”

He also talked about his dad, and following his footsteps into a career in music.

“Music’s been with me from the get-go.  It was always around me as a kid. Dad got me my first guitar when I was 11 and, at school, if you wanted to be cool you had to be in a band… Now, for me, it’s about the creativity of songwriting.  I’ve had great reviews but there has been a negative force against me in the media with regards to me working in the music industry.  It was hard for some people to accept me. Some of the nicest reviews compare my work favorably with my dad’s work. Some recently have been a pleasure to read.  It was a tough road but I learned a lot.”

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Julian Lennon[/lastfm] has only recorded six albums and just released his first new music in 20 years with  Everything Changes.  I saw him at Symphony Hall in the early 80’s shortly after Valotte and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Too Late For Goodbyes[/lastfm] became hits.  He even sang a couple of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beatles[/lastfm] tracks his dad had sung with the band – and nailed them.  I hope he’s made peace with his heritage.  Maybe enough time has passed for him to be judged on his own merits – the new album is a good start.

Biggest Hit in which Country…? There is a World outside of the US ya know!

    1. It’s a big task to keep up with the hits in just one place! What country are you referring to, and what were his hits outside the U.S.? Thanks Charley.
