Does Daylight Savings Time put you at risk for a heart attack or suicide?

Although we don’t change our clocks in Arizona, some people are affected by the time change – depending on jobs or the type of work they do, and this change in time can do a number on your health!

Believe it or not, studies have shown that Daylight Savings Time can be unhealthy, especially for those with pre-existing conditions, due to the shift in sleep schedules. Most people aren’t affected and adapt quickly within a few days. But, studies have shown that a small percentage of those who with depression or heart problems, are at a higher risk for heart attacks or even suicide.

An Australian study from 2008 declared that most men were likely to commit suicide within weeks of Daylight Savings Time, than any other time of the year. Another study from the same year found that heart attack risks increased by 4%.
