According to The Hollywood reporter, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Davy Jones[/lastfm] low-key funeral service was to have been held today.  If it was, we know Davy’s survining [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Monkees[/lastfm] bandmates [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Micky Dolenz[/lastfm], [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Peter Tork[/lastfm], and [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Michael Nesmeth [/lastfm]weren’t in attendance.

“My understanding is they want to avoid a media circus … the family wants to keep it very, very low-key and very, very private. And you can imagine as soon as one or two or any of us were to show up, it would very quickly be degraded into something that I don’t think his immediate family would want to deal with. So I’m kind of respecting their wishes, whatever their wishes may be.”

The family decided to cremate Jones, though the final resting place for the ashes had not been disclosed.

Davy’s’ spokeswoman, Helen Kensick confirmed to Lifeline Live that “there is a private family funeral in Florida this week.”  She also said that next week there will be a funeral service in England, and there may be a public service in New York or Los Angeles soon after, but that one is tentative.

The Jones family is asking for donations to be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Fans will also get their chance to pay their respects with a pair of public memorials in New York and Britain — Jones’ birthplace. No dates for the events have yet been announced.
And according to Micky, the remaining [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Monkees[/lastfm] may reunite to honor Jones with a memorial concert.
Now that would be something to see.  Several years ago Davy spoke of how things changed for the group after their initial album. Here’s what he said.
  1. The highest man understands precisely what is right; the inferior man understands what’s going to sell.
Informed decision-making develops from a long tradition of guessing then blaming others for inadequate results.
