Did Marvin Gaye Out Sing Whitney Houston On The Star Spangled Banner?

[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Whitney Houston[/lastfm]’s version of our National Anthem is still one of the most stirring performances of all time.  But long before  Whitney, [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”], Marvin Gaye[/lastfm] had sung it before a couple of sports classics – with two very different versions.  Legendary Detroit Tigers announcer Ernie Harwell invited Marvin to sing it at Tiger Stadium before Game 4 of the 1968 World Series between the Detroit and St. Louis.  Then in 1983, a more mature and confident [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Marvin Gaye[/lastfm] sang it again at the NBA All Star Game, with a completely different arrangement.  Some loved it, others considered it blasphemy.
