Though it was an album that contained no hit singles and, really, was designed for the most hardcore of [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Aerosmith[/lastfm] fans, Rocks was, at the time, one of their biggest and fastest sellers.

Though it’s been eclipsed by some of their later records, when Rocks was released in June 1976 it went platinum almost immediately.

Could be the defiant lack of “hit” material appealed to Aerosmith fans, no doubt enamored with the Zeppelin-like rush of “Nobodys Fault” and the Stonesian groove of “Combination.”

And radio programmers — the FM guys who liked to get loud, anyway — managed to find a couple of songs (like “Last Child” and “Back In The Saddle”) that live on today as Two-fer Tuesday favorites.

A flop of the highest order in the UK, fans in the US spurred the record to sell more than 4,000,000 copies since its release.
