She Slapped His Face?

mahog 2 She Slapped His Face? Here’s another story about about the “sometimes” temperamental Diana Ross.

This event reportedly took place in Rome, during the filming of the 1975 film Mahogany.

Director Berry Gordy kept pushing Diana  Diana Ross, who was pregnant at the time, for take after take.  But she finally couldn’t take it anymore.

she slapped Berry so hardhis glasses flew across the room.  She then stormed into her trailer with assistants in tow, and jumped on the next flight to Los Angeles. A body double had to complete her scenes.

Mahogany was produced by Motown Productions and released to theaters by Paramount Pictures on October 8, 1975. Diana had the leading role as a poor African-American woman who rises to become a popular fashion designer in Rome.

The film ultimately performed well at the box office upon its release. It includes a Ross-sung theme song, “Theme from Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To),” which became a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976.

It held the number-one spot for one week (January 17–January 24, 1976), replacing “I Write the Songs” by Barry Manilow and replaced by “Love Rollercoaster” by the Ohio Players. “Theme from Mahogany,” written by Michael Masser & Gerald Goffin and produced by Masser, was the best-reviewed element of Mahogany and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song. The song was later covered by Mariah Carey in 1998 and Sony Music labelmate Jennifer Lopez the following year.

Mahogany was released on VHS home video in the 1990s, and was issued on DVD on May 1, 2007.

He probably deserved it….if you read he was working her to death and she just snapped….so what!

I don’t believe it, it sounds more like a scene from “Mahogany” than reality. But Berry should have left this film to a real director Tony Richardson who directed the award winner “Tom Jones”. Berry was too controlling and after the success of “Lady Sings The Blues” he thought he could direct. Diana had that raw acting talent and could do anything I really wished she had more chances to show more of her acting work during that decade.

The departed spirit of Florence Ballard probably entered & possessed Diana’s body for a few seconds and took revenge on Mr. Gordy for old times sake !!!!!! 🙂

Hog wash! Just another one of those stories to put a bad light on Diana Ross. Besides, if it did happen, that was 1975 and the last time I looked, this is 2010 – that’s 35 years ago. Get over it…..

Sounds like more myth and a scene conjoured for the over-the-top film itself.

Tony Richardson or Sidney J Furie (who directed Ross’s film debut) should have directed this film it would have gotten better performances from all the actors including Diana Ross.

Berry Gordy has been credited for ‘making’ Diana Ross – well that’s absurd when you think about the talent of this woman. In this instance he should be credited for breaking her film chances.

We could have had many credible and watchable Diana Ross films during the 70s, 80s anf 90s.

    What a waste!

It DID happen, many people witnessed it, He deserved it. Diana wanted the original director to complete the film, BG drove him off and was jealous of Billy Dee; hence no real love scenes. Ross felt squandered and abused. She let him have it.
