sedaka neil sedakas back lp cover Neil Sedaka is 71 today

And his voice still hasn’t changed.

That’s a good thing.  [lastfm]Neil Sedaka[/lastfm] can still hit the high notes.

I only met him once.  It was backstage in Dallas Texas and he couldn’t have been more kind or cordial.  Laughter In the Rain had just been released a few months earlier and he was amazed at his ‘second chance’ on the charts.  We talked about a lot of things that had happened to him.  The hits, his songwriting partner [lastfm]Howie Greenfield[/lastfm], [lastfm]Carole King[/lastfm] and her song for him called ‘Oh Neil’, and one of his piano teachers who still lived in Dallas at the time.  Sedaka was training to be a classical pianist before the songwriting bug hit.  Out of all the people I’ve interviewed over the years, Neil was the most easy going and open.  I hope to see him again sometime.

Around the time I spoke with him in mid 1975, Neil was a guest on WFAA’s Ed Busch talk show, which was on a few hours after my shift.  During that conversation his honesty and love for his children came through.  Something that thankfull continues to this day.  Take a listen to this clip.
